SP Lady Yankees Win Softball Major Division Championship

The lady Yanks defeated the Haverstraw Orioles 1-0 to win the Majors Division Championship in an incredibly intense game. The Lady Yanks’ went into the game an underdog having won only 1 of 5 against the Haverstraw Orioles in the regular season. Congratulations to the Lady Yanks’ for the win and playing with class against a tough Haverstraw team all season long.

Manager Michelle O’Brien had great praise for her team after the win saying,  ”Caroline was so composed and truly magical on the mound. She struck out 16 batters and walked NO ONE!!!!

Emma has really become a solid catcher. Only 4 dropped 3rd strikes and only 2 of the 4 made it on base. She was confident with runners on 3rd base and threw down when she needed to.

Moving Meghan Delisio to shortstop was probably my best coaching decision of the year (pat, pat). She made a great catch at a pivotal point in their batting order and was moving on every play.

Piggy played a stellar 2B, making a spectacular force play to 1st with 2 outs and a runner on 3rd. Also, knocked a hard hit ball down in the bottom of the 6th.

Nicole was alert at 1B, giving Emma and the infielders a good target.

Bella made a great catch on a line drive down the 3rd baseline. She also had a double and eventually crossed the plate as our only run!

Our outfield did not see much action..which is a GOOD THING! Gurnoor fielded their only outfield hit and got it in super fast!

At the plate, Kelly was the first batter to get on base and later in the game, got her bat on the ball to advance the Piggy and put pressure on them.

Dilynn did her job in left field, moving to back up 3rd and….she stayed in the batter’s box at both her at bats!

Gia made it on base at both her at bats, 2 singles. The first single drew an error and got us the run we needed for the win! Congrats to all the girls for improving throughout the season and getting the ‘W. “
